Parent Learning Series
Sometimes parents are faced with huge challenges and have few skills
or resources to deal with them. This type of situation can, and
often does, result in abuse or neglect of a child. Most parents
want to give their children the best life possible, but are overwhelmed
with day-to-day life. BETA Center believes that all parents, even
parents who have been abusive or neglected their child, do have
skills that can be worked with to improve their parenting ability.
BETA Center offers two 8-week series that address issues relevant
to these parents. These two series are Parenting Skills Building
and Understanding Anger. Each class is two hours in length and involves
education and practice facilitated by trained clinical professionals.
The Parenting Skills Building 8 week course focuses on understanding
the role of a parent in raising children, identifying why children
misbehave, and how to manage their misbehaviors. Additionally it
focuses on building communication skills, discipline techniques,
safety, managing anger, and understanding differing temperaments.
The Understanding Anger course is a 5 hour class offered once a month and focuses on why parents
get angry and how that anger either directed at their child or not
has an effect on the child. Additionally it focuses on stress and
anger management techniques, helps parents identify what is at the
root of their anger, how anger has affected their life and anger
management techniques.
